Sunday was dull and gray, as most of November has been. And cold. As Syau and I walked on the trail, a Great Egret, who’d been fishing in the drainage ditch to the right of the trail, took flight, soaring a couple of feet above this man’s head to settle in front of him as if leading the way to somewhere important.

Even on a drab day, the forest has clusters of green. Throughout our neighborhood, we have large sections of protected woodlands separating houses, townhomes, and condos.

Monday started off chilly and cloudy. By midday, it was warm and sunny. And by evening, it was cool and cloudy. The sun hasn’t visited us much this month, and I miss her.

On Sunday, I made Cardamom Cookies, a recipe from my former neighbor who moved to Wisconsin in October. I texted this photo to her. I actually adjusted the recipe by tripling the cardamom and adding cinnamon. She approved since she thought the cardamom was barely noticeable when she made her first batch a couple of weeks ago. I will definitely make these again.

I found this snake half in and half out of a hole in the concrete beside the walking/biking trail. Wasn’t sure if he was alive or not, but a slight nudge confirmed he was dead. Not sure if something in the hole killed him or if he was already dead and something tried to pull him into the hole.
