Anna Haining Bates was a notable Canadian woman who stood 2.41 meters tall. She was one of the tallest females in the room. Her parents were Scottish immigrants and were of ordinary height.Anna Swan was born in New Annan, Nova Scotia, in the town of Mill Brook. At birth, she weighed 7.26 kg. Since birth, it has grown at a breakneck speed. She was 137 centimeters tall on her fourth birthday. Its height was measured at 157.48 cm on its sixth anniversary. She was 185 cm tall on her tenth birthday. He was 196.22 cm tall when he was 12 years old. Bates was 210 cm tall at the age of 15. Three years later, it reached its highest point.When Barnum’s museum caught fire on July 13, 1865, it was almost completely destroyed. The stairwell was on fire, and she couldn’t get out through a window because she was too tall. He obtained assistance and was able to flee safely. Swan was seen by the promoter and hired on the spot when she visited a circus in Halifax with Martin Van Buren Bates, another exceptionally tall individual. The massive couple became a tour sensation, fell in love, and married on June 17, 1871 at London’s St Martin-in-the-Fields.Bates and her husband purchased 53 acres of land in 1872 and had furnishings constructed to their specifications. Martin was in charge of the house’s construction. The ceilings in the main part of the home were 4.3 meters high, and the doors were 2.4 meters wide and tall. The servants’ and visitors’ quarters were built in the back of the house.
Martin and Bates had two children together. The first was a girl who died in childbirth on May 19, 1872, weighing 8.16 kg. Anna became pregnant for the second time during a tour in the summer of 1878. On January 18, 1879, a baby boy was born and only lived for 11 hours. With a weight of 10.7 kg and a height of over 75 cm, he was the tallest infant ever recorded.For this, he was posthumously awarded a Guinness World Record.

In the summer of 1879 and again in the spring of 1880, Bateses toured with the W.W. Cole Circus. Bates and her husband owned a farm, and she lived her tranquil years there. In 1877, she became a member of the local Baptist church and began attending services with her husband.
Bates died of heart failure in her sleep on August 5, 1888, the day before she turned 42 years old, at home. During her lifetime, no one was able to figure out why she was so tall. Because X-rays were not invented until 1895, it was impossible to tell whether he had a pituitary tumor.
