Bath Time
I am floating in the void,
a flat stone waiting
on the water.
How warm the nights are
as I lie here in silence
all by myself.
When I close my eyes,
I see bright stars
fading in and out
amongst the darkness.
Their familiarity
aches like an old wound.
It has never been hard
to find the shadows.
They are all around me,
leaking out from me
like sunlight over the hills.
Soon I am empty,
my body soft as a cloud.
It opens so easily
like a flower blooming.
I smell the wild roses
hiding within me.
But out of the darkness
I must rise,
sooner or later.
Like a screaming kraken
breaking through the deep,
clawing my way
back into the light.
The shadows are long
but they are not infinite.
