In most businesses managers are responsible for making sure that certain tasks are completed, a plan is fulfilled (on budget and on time), and the people who complete these things are able to do the work well and are satisfied with their work. These are good and certainly fundamental.

Managing in an employee owned company is different. EO companies foster an environment where people regularly see and act through two different perspectives — the employee and the shareholder.

Managers in EO companies help people be great at their jobs and also they help them become a great shareholder. They help people understand the long-term impact of daily decisions.
