Healthy Eye Tips for Kids

Every experience a preschooler has is an opportunity for him/her to learn and understand. It is a way forward for the child’s growth and development. During this age, a child fine-tunes the visual abilities gained during infancy and develops new ones. A child’s involvement in activities like stacking up building blocks, rolling a ball back and forth, colouring, drawing, cutting, and assembling lock-together toys is essential for the development of visual skills.

Apart from the suggested eye-test schedules, there are a few tips which too can help the child maintain healthy eyesight.

A Balanced Diet:

Well-balanced diet comprises green leafy and red vegetables like spinach, kale collard, carrots and beetroots. The child’s diet should also contain yellow fruits like Musk melon, papayas and mangoes. Yellow fruits are a rich source of carotene — a booster for eyes, and an antecedent to Vitamin A.

Delay digital Exposure:

All things are going digital with the advent of technology. The reach of technology has now penetrated into kindergarten where poems are screened rather than recited. Also, parents are extensively exposing their children to the digital screen. Such exposure will only deteriorate healthy eyesight during its formative years. And hence to pacify cranky kids, consider using non-digital playthings rather than digital things.

Keep a safe distance from television:

Children love moving images, and this love brings them too close to the television sets. And this love of theirs can lead to eye issues in the future. Make the children sit at a safe distance while enjoying their favourite shows on the T.V.

Mobile Video Games and Playstations:

All-time- access to mobile games or PlayStation can hamper a child’s vision. It can also lead to adult computer vision syndrome as they age.
